How To Use

The following instructions are for members of REI’s marketing team, store managers, and green shirts. Usage of this collateral by activists, culture-jammers, and co-op members trying to stop us from turning REI into a for-profit capital venture is strictly prohibited. Please do not use the following instructions or reach out to us for detailed assistance.

Creating Materials

  • To Replace Existing Collateral: Download full-color version of marketing collateral. Order anywhere you can get 9×13″ foam board signs. We are sourcing a better option, but for the moment recommend 48HourSigns. Click here to start at the Form Board Sign form. Fill out the information to match the below image and use LOVEMYFBSIGN to get 40% off. For image, upload the full-color version of the marketing collateral to both sides. The more signs you order, the cheaper the per sign cost.
  • To Cover Existing Collateral: Download single-color version of marketing collateral (without background color). Then order flyer prints on card stock to match REI’s secondary brand colors of “Natural” (HEX #F4F2ED) or “Birch” (HEX #E8E0CE). These can be printed online and picked up in person at your local Staples or FedEx Office. If printing at Staples: Click here to start at Simple Prints. Upload Single-color, 11×17″ version of marketing collateral. Select Paper Size: “Ledger,” Orientation: “Portrait,” and make sure “Scale To Fit” is unselected. For Color Options, select “Color Ink.” Then, to select more paper options, including one that matches REI’s “Birch” color, scroll to the bottom of the options on the paper page and select “Transfer to Professional Print.”Once your job is transferred to this new page, re-check your selections, and under “Standard Color Paper,” select “Cream.”Because Staples cannot print custom work at 9×13″ your flyers will print on 11×17″ paper with cut marks and you can ask a Staples employee to laser cut them to 9×13” or do it yourself.


    If Printing at FedEx Office: Click here to start at Copies and Custom Documents. Select 11×17″ for size, any paper (you’ll replace this in a moment), and single-sided. On the next screen you’ll be asked to upload a file. Upload the 11×17″ single-color version of marketing collateral. This will take you to a new screen where you can select additional paper options under “Product Print Properties” (center column, below). Select Ivory (24 lb.)

    This will print materials on 11×17″ paper with trim marks to be cut down to 9×13.” FedEx Office team members can assist you in using the cut marks to trim your flyers.

Installing Materials

  • If you are a member of REI’s marketing team, please replace assets during inventory hours so as not to disturb customers.
  • If you are an activist, culture-jammer, or co-op member, please stop reading this is not for you. Do not bring multiple assets in a reusable shopping tote to appear as if you are shopping. Do not bring a friend to cause a distraction or ask questions of an REI team member while you replace marketing collateral. Do not attempt replacement during the store’s busiest hours when staff is less likely to notice.

Documenting Installation

  • After you install the materials make sure to send us your documentation.
